Dollar Tree has a small selection of wine next to the cash registers and we picked up the best selection we could find. They tended towards Moscato sweet wines so the choices were limited. This tasting include an Icon Moscato, Arbor Mist Mango/Strawberry, Barefoot Moscato and a Carlo Rossi Moscato Sangria. Lynn and I both agreed the Arbor Mist Mango/Strawberry stood out for a hot day, cool drink with great flavor!!

We purchased 5 big name Chardonnay box wines and set them out for a blind wine tasting. Lightly flavored, some hints of pear and green apply and not a whole lot of buttery tastes from any of them.

The Black Box Chardonnay came out on top both with aroma, flavors and the lowest price

Tasting: Trader Joe’s French Bordeaux wines and one GSM

We picked 4 French Bordeaux wines from Trader Joe’s and because they only had 3 Bordeaux’s on the shelf, we grabbed a French GSM wine to mix in the blind tasting. The hâteau Haut Clarib Bordeaux Supérieur for just $8.99 won the tasting with Lynn buying again for a party and Scott buying again for home consumption.

The California Pinot came out on top with 2 Italian Pinot’s tying for second.

Black Box “Red Blend” came out on top with the Pinot Noir a close second and the Merlot running 3rd.

The Cabernet from Chile and the Malbec from California, can stay at the store.

Tasting: Trader Joe’s Zinfandel red wine

We tasted 3 Zinfandels from Trader Joe’s that are under $10 and one that is just over $10 all lined up on the shelf at Trader Joe’s. The winner, Seven Deadly Zin was slightly above $10 at $12.99. We thought it would win based on price alone and the results of the blind tasting confirmed our theory.
